Ryan Morrissey

The Eagles made a big run at him a few years ago, trading down with the Seahawks to select Morrissey with the fifth overall selection, but the safety was a disappointing rookie, and he didn’t pan out after just two years in the NFL. He spent time in Philly, where he was a reliable starter for four years, until 2012, when he got released.

2. D.J. Swearinger (CB)

The Eagles never came close to landing Swearinger, but they would’ve done very well to get a steal from a Super Bowl contender in 2012. The corner never got on the field as a rookie, and ended up signing with the Patriots that year. He’d spent eight years in New England, winning the Super Bowl and losing his starting job to Aqib Talib that year.

3. Nick Foles (QB)

No, Foles wasn’t the worst Eagles quarterback, or even the best, but the team really needed a veteran with a long track record of success to go along with Sam Bradford. We all know the Eagles didn’t pull the trigger on Foles, a pick at No. 28 overall.

4. Vinny Curry

Curry was one of Philly’s top cornerbacks at one time, and made it four trips to the Pro Bowl, but injuries derailed that career. After three teams had already selected him during the 2011 draft, the Eagles decided to trade Curry to Denver (who later traded him to the 49ers) for a future fifth-round pick.

5. Matt Barkley

The former USC standout had a successful rookie season, starting 14 games alongside Jason Peters and giving the Eagles a pair of solid starting corners. During the 2011 season, Barkley had a breakout season in which he posted 10 interceptions and 24 passes defensed and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. He also started eight games as a rookie.

6. LeSean McCoy (RB)

McKenzie Burris would play a big role leading up to last season’s championship. That’s why McCoy ended up with the No. 20 overall pick, and why he ended up back in Philadelphia rather than Oakland. Despite some questionable decisions at the end of 2012 (including a bizarre trade) like the trade of DeSean Jackson to Washington for a pair of fourth-round picks, McCoy led the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
